The Music Box

The Music Box

The inspiration for this collection comes from a 1952 book by Kurt Vonnegut titled Player Piano in The Age of Automation.  It's a story that explores the affects of technology on a society where automation replaces human jobs.  A relic of a different time, the player piano is a very early example of how technology impacted the way people related to music.  Fast forward, AI and robotics are now a huge part of our lives.  The challenge is finding the balance between technological progress and the human spirit.

Pipe Dreams

Pipe Dreams

Pete Hamill said "Men and women use tools...artists celebrate their existence and transform them into art". The paintings in this series represent the relationship between mankind's imagination and tools.  My inspiration comes from a shed of long forgotten gadgets, pipes and tools.  As I rummaged through old wooden barrels and boxes, the items transformed into interesting objects with untold stories - and became art.

This is a collection of selective creative musings - small sized oil sketches and studies testing out ideas.  The subject matter varies and sparks the imagination asking to be explored in a more spontaneous fashion.

Knot Play

Knot Play

John Turner said "Knots are more numerous than the stars; and equally mysterious and beautiful". This is an ongoing collection of paintings based on a play on words and some loosely agreed upon knot categories as determined in "The History and Science of Knots" by J C Turner and P van de Griend.

Abstract/Graphic

Abstract/Graphic

This is a collection of paintings inspired by my time spent in the southern pacific zone of Costa Rica. I turned to my background in graphic design to work with the shapes and colors of the natural beauty found in that area of the country. For me, these are visually happy paintings signifying the "Pura Vida"  lifestyle.

Coded Messages

Coded Messages

This collection focuses on the thread that art and the game of Mahjong share - Symbolism. It plays a crucial role in shaping visual language, storytelling and the emotional engagement of visual art & games. Today's popularity of the game of Mahjong with its symbolic tiles along with the concept of symbolism that is such a part of the narrative in traditional still life painting is the perfect example.
